Welcome the New Year with a soul-refreshing retreat to Batanes. Join a 4-day Praycation to Batanes with a Pilgrimage Chaplain on January 20 to 23, 2026. Take time to pray, reflect, and soak in the peace and beauty of one of the Philippines’ most beloved islands.
Your praycation start at the scenic Mount Carmel chapel, built in the style of Ivatan homes and surrounded by views of the West Philippine Sea and Pacific Ocean. Then head to Radar Tukon, a former lighthouse perched on a hill with sweeping 360-degree views of Batan Island, Mount Iraya, and both the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Let the cool breeze refresh you as it flows through the hills and trees.
Make your way to Basco’s Idjang, a historic Ivatan hilltop settlement. Walk along the stone-strewn shore of Valugan Boulder Bay, shaped by Mount Iraya’s ancient eruption. Later, celebrate Mass at Basco Cathedral, also known as Sto. Domingo de Basco. This is the oldest church in Batanes and is dedicated to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the province.
From the Vayang Rolling Hills, continue your journey to Naidi Hills, home to the iconic Basco Lighthouse, where you’ll be treated to sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, Mount Iraya, and Batan Island.
After an early breakfast, begin your day with morning prayers at Mahatao’s Tayid Lighthouse, known for its stunning ocean views. Then, visit the small Diura fishing village, where locals perform the Kapayvanuvanua ritual to mark the start of the fishing season. Stop by the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes before heading to Racuh Apayaman—also called “Marlboro Country“—to enjoy sweeping views of the sea, cliffs, and green pasturelands. End the day with Mass at the historic San Carlos Borromeo Church, built by the Dominicans in 1789 and now recognized as one of the Philippines’ cultural landmarks.
Your journey continues to Imnajbu, regarded as the birthplace of Christianity in Batanes. Visit the San Lorenzo Ruiz Chapel, where the island’s first Mass was held in 1682. Take in the stunning scenery at Alapad Hills and Rock Formations, with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean—perfect for memorable photos.
Celebrate Mass at the picturesque Church of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Itbud. Then, head to Uyugan, which has the most preserved stone houses in Batan Island. Visit San Antonino de Florencia Parish Church and drive by the Ruins of Songsong, a ghost village abandoned after a 1950s tidal wave.
Head to Ivana and stop by the iconic Honesty Coffee Shop, one of Batanes’ most famous man-made attractions. Known for its unique concept, the shop is unmanned and operates solely on the honesty of its customers. Continue south to the San Jose de Obrero Church, one of the best-preserved churches in the province. Then, visit the House of Dakay—a timeless Ivatan treasure, celebrated as one of the most iconic, most photographed, and oldest surviving stone houses in Batanes.
Wrap up your praycation with a quiet moment at Chawa View Deck, overlooking the stunning cliffs and vast expanse of the West Philippine Sea.
