Holy Land

St. Jerome called the Holy Land pilgrimage the “fifth gospel.” Five gospels record the life of Jesus- four you will find in books and one you will find in the land they call holy. Experience the fifth gospel and the world of the four will open to you. Join a 10-day Franciscan Pilgrimage to the Holy Land with Fr. Rey C. Galoy, OFM leaving on April 29, 2019.
Your pilgrimage begins in Nazareth, the cradle of Christianity, and hometown of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Visit the awe inspiring Basilica of the Annunciation, which stands over the cave where the Archangel Gabriel told Mary that she would become the Mother of God. Travel onwards to Capernaum, the place where Jesus made His first disciples from among the humble local fishermen. Celebrate Mass at the Church of St. Peter, built over the ruins of the house of St. Peter. Head for the Church of the Transfiguration in Mount Tabor, considered as one of the most beautiful churches in the Holy Land.
Renew your baptismal vows at the Jordan River and your marriage vows in Cana, the site of the first miracle of Jesus. Touch the rock, also known as Mensa Christi (Latin for Table of Christ), where Jesus prepared a meal for His disciples after His resurrection at the Church of the Primacy of St. Peter in Tabgha. Soak in the serene atmosphere and imagine our Lord, Jesus, preaching the Sermon on the Mount while standing on the Mount of Beatitudes. Enjoy a pleasurable boat ride across the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus performed numerous miracles and walked on the water.
Next stop is Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. Touch the silver star that marks the exact place where Jesus was born at the Grotto of the Nativity. Visit Shepherd’s Field, the fields identified since ancient times with the shepherds who saw the Star of Nativity.
A high point of the pilgrimage is a visit to the Old City of Jerusalem. Here, you will relive the passion of Jesus while praying the Stations of the Cross on the Via Dolorosa (Way of Grief), which ends at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
The charming picturesque village of Ein Karem is the home town of Zechariah and Elizabeth, the parents of John the Baptist, and the place of the Visitation. You will be greeted by one of the Church’s most beloved hymns, Mary’s Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55), which she prayed when she met Elizabeth, now written in no less than 47 languages on the wall facing the church.
If you have ever considered making a pilgrimage to the land where Jesus lived, you are invited now to “Come… and you will see.”(John 1:39) Join a Franciscan Pilgrimage to the Holy Land with Fr. Rey C. Galoy, OFM leaving on April 29, 2019. On pilgrimage, may you experience an encounter with Christ that will change your life forever.
