Jordan & Holy Land
“To go in a spirit of prayer from one place to another, from one city to another, in the area marked especially by God’s intervention, helps us not only to live our life as a journey, but also gives us a vivid sense of a God who has gone before us and leads us on, who himself set out on man’s path, a God who does not look down on us from on high, but who became our travelling companion.”
~St. John Paul II
Grow in first-hand knowledge of the scriptures. Make your way through the Holy Land to experience Jesus, follow in His footsteps, and see Him in the works He performed. Explore Jordan and visit the renowned UNESCO World Heritage sites of Petra and Wadi Rum. Embark on a Pilgrimage to Jordan with Wadi Rum and the Holy Land with a Pilgrimage Chaplain leaving on November 19, 2021.
Begin your pilgrimage in Wadi Rum, Jordan, reputed as one of the world’s most beautiful deserts. Named “The Valley of the Moon” for good reason, the area’s natural intrigue is endless: stunning rock formations, fascinating rock art, and a brilliant night sky combine to create a unique and worthwhile destination. Experience a sense of Jordanian Bedouin culture and heritage through cuisine, music, celebrations, design and lifestyle on your two night stay at the Mazayen Rum Camp.
Head for the lost city of Petra, once described as “the rose city half as old as time.” Literally carved directly into vibrant red, white, pink and sandstone cliff, this UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the world’s most stunning archaeological sites.
Cross the border of Jordan into Israel via the Allenby Bridge. Head for Nazareth, the cradle of Christianity. Visit the Basilica of Annunciation, which stands directly over a cave in the crypt that is traditionally held to be the home of the Virgin Mary. Here, the archangel Gabriel told Mary that she would become the mother of the Son of God.
While on pilgrimage, pilgrims will have the chance to renew their baptismal vows at the River Jordan and married couple-pilgrims will renew their marriage vows at the Wedding Church at Cana. Journey on to the holy town of Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. Touch the silver star which marks the exact spot where He was born.
Next stop is Jerusalem, a city holy to Jews, Christians and Muslims. This heart of the Holy Land is the place where Jesus died and rose again. Follow the Via Dolorosa (Way of the Cross) to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, while carrying the cross, and venerate the Tomb of Jesus.
The charming picturesque village of Ein Karem is the home town of Zechariah and Elizabeth, the parents of John the Baptist, and the place of the Visitation. Depart from Israel and cross the Allenby Bridge into Jordan. Visit Mount Nebo where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land by Yahweh. See the Moses Sanctuary, a memorial of Moses on the site of his death and burial place.
Join a 13-day Pilgrimage to Jordan with Wadi Rum and the Holy Land with a Pilgrimage Chaplain leaving on November 19, 2021. May this journey, unlike any other, bring about a true spiritual awakening; a life changing experience that each and every one would never forget.
