Egypt, Holy Land & Jordan
It’s one thing to read the Bible passages in black and white, but it’s a different experience to be able to see them in real life. Imagine how it will feel to actually be in the very place where it all happened. You’ll definitely understand and appreciate the Bible better than you ever have.
Standing at the Pyramids in Egypt and floating down the Nile caused the stories of Joseph, Moses, and the children of Israel to come alive. While in Jordan, you will stand with Moses on Mount Nebo and look over into the Promised Land. And in Israel, you will walk in the land where Jesus walked. Embark on an unforgettable pilgrimage to the Land of the Bible (Egypt, the Holy Land, and Jordan) with Fr. Robert Adam Cajipo, PHD on March 9-22, 2023. May you catch a glimpse of heaven, a paradise filled with God’s presence, in the land where our forefathers once lived.
Start your journey in Cairo, the cradle of civilization. Visit the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, two of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and travel back in time to the era of ancient Egypt. Explore the Egypt Museum‘s impressive collection of ancient artifacts, which includes the brilliant treasures of Tutankhamun and other legendary pharoahs.
See one of the most famous and oldest churches in Cairo, the Church of the Virgin Mary, better known by its nickname, the Hanging Church. Next stop is a visit to the Saints Sergius and Bacchus church. Built in the fourth century, this church is located above the cave where the Holy Family is said to have stayed after they fled into Egypt. Stop at the foot of Mount Sinai, referred to as the Mountain of Moses, which is believed to be the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments from God. Not to be missed is a delightful evening cruise on the Nile River.
Cross the Taba border to get from Egypt to Israel. Drive to the Dead Sea, which is the lowest point on earth. Enjoy a plunge in the salty water where you will float endlessly and cover yourself with some mineral-rich mud that is healthy for your skin. Continue on to Jericho, one of the world’s oldest cities. Take a look at the Mount of Temptation, where Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days before beginning his public ministry.
Continue on to Nazareth, the childhood home of Jesus, and Mount Tabor, where he was transfigured. Enjoy a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus miraculously walked on water.
While on pilgrimage, pilgrims will have the opportunity to renew their baptismal vows at the Jordan River, and their marriage vows at the Church of the First Miracle in Cana. Continue on to Bethlehem, the holy city where Jesus was born. Touch the silver star which marks the exact place where He was born.
The next stop is Jerusalem, a holy city for Jews, Christians, and Muslims. In this heart of the Holy Land, Jesus was crucified and raised from the dead. Take a meaningful walk through the Via Dolorosa (Way of Sorrows), where you can trace His steps and reflect on Jesus’ suffering and death. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is said to have been built on Golgotha, also known as Calvary, the site of Jesus’ crucifixion.
Leave Israel for Jordan and visit Mount Nebo. After 40 years leading the headstrong Israelites in the desert, Moses stood on the windswept summit of Mount Nebo and viewed the Promised Land of Canaan, after having been told by God, “You shall not cross over there.” The Sanctuary of Moses is the next stop, a memorial to Moses’ death and burial site. Wind down your pilgrimage in the ancient, lost city of Petra. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the world’s most stunning archaeological sites. It is literally carved directly into the vibrant red, white, pink, and sandstone cliffs.
There is no place on earth like the Land of the Bible to feel the events of Moses, Abraham, and Jesus’ life come alive. Join a 14-day pilgrimage to the Land of the Bible (Egypt, the Holy Land, and Jordan) with Fr. Robert Adam F. Cajipo, PHD on March 9-22, 2023.
