Italy
The “Seven Churches” pilgrimage, originally conceived by St. Philip Neri in the 16th century, is one of Rome’s oldest traditions. This 25-kilometer journey weaves through the heart of the city and into the tranquil Roman countryside, passing the historic catacombs and culminating in visits to some of Rome’s most magnificent basilicas. Walk through Rome’s Holy Doors and receive the Jubilee Indulgence offered during this special Jubilee Year of Hope. Join a 12-day Pilgrimage to Rome, visiting the Seven Pilgrim Churches, with a Pilgrimage Chaplain, from July 7-18, 2025.
Begin your pilgrimage with a 4-night stay in Rome. Rome, a living museum, offers an unparalleled journey through time, faith, and culture. Explore the iconic sites and sacred shrines of city, including the four major basilicas, and walk through the holy doors of St. Peter’s Basilica, St. Paul Outside the Walls, St. John Lateran, and St. Mary Major. Continue your pilgrimage by visiting the remaining three of the Seven Pilgrim Churches: the Basilica of St. Lawrence Outside the Walls, the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem, and the Basilica of St. Sebastian Outside the Walls.
Travel from Rome to Manoppello, where you will visit the Santuario del Volto Santo (Shrine of the Holy Face) and attend Mass. This sacred church houses a revered linen cloth believed to bear the miraculous image of Jesus Christ’s face. From there, continue to San Giovanni Rotondo, the spiritual home of Saint Padre Pio. Visit the humble cell where he lived and passed away and reflect before the crucifix in Santa Maria delle Grazie Church, where he received the stigmata. Conclude your visit by offering prayers before Saint Pio’s incorrupt body, reverently displayed in a part-glass coffin at the Sanctuary of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, also known as the Padre Pio Pilgrimage Church. Make an afternoon visit to the Sanctuary of St. Michael the Archangel (Santuario di San Michele Arcangelo), a sacred grotto believed to be the site where Archangel Michael appeared and consecrated the shrine.
Head to Lanciano to witness the Eucharistic Miracle, a sacred relic miraculously preserved in a monstrance at the Church of St. Legontian since the eighth century. Your next stop is the Basilica of the Holy House in Loreto, a sacred shrine believed to be the home of the Holy Family, where Our Blessed Mother is said to have been conceived and born. Devout believers hold that this very house was miraculously transported by angelic beings from Nazareth to Dalmatia (modern-day Croatia). In 1924, the house was relocated once again, this time to the hilltop town of Loreto in Italy. Proceed to Cascia to visit and attend Mass at the Monastery and Basilica of St. Rita of Cascia, a minor basilica that preserves the incorrupt body of St. Rita.
Wind down your pilgrimage with a two-night stay in Assisi, a medieval city built on a hill and the home of St. Francis, the founder of the Franciscan Order. Assisi is a place of pilgrimage for those seeking peace, reflection, and connection to the saint’s teachings of humility and simplicity. The Basilica of St. Francis, which houses the tomb of St. Francis, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to stunning frescoes by Giotto and other renowned artists.
Held once every 25 years, a jubilee offers a unique opportunity for profound spiritual growth and renewed faith. On December 24, 2024, Pope Francis inaugurated the 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope by opening the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica. Passing through a Holy Door symbolizes the beginning of a journey of conversion. Join a 12-day Pilgrimage to Rome, visiting the Seven Pilgrim Churches, with a Pilgrimage Chaplain, from July 7-18, 2025. May each pilgrim’s faith be strengthened, and may they encounter God’s limitless love and mercy in profound and life-changing ways.
