“Am I not here, I who am your Mother? Is there anything else you need?”
~ Our Lady’s words to Juan Diego in Tepeyac Hill, Mexico
Our Lady first appeared to the visionary St. Juan Diego on December 9, 1531. She appeared to him four times in total and asked that a church be built in her honor. The Archbishop did not believe Juan Diego the first time he mentioned the apparition. On December 11th, Juan Diego’s uncle fell ill, and on December 12th, he was cured. The image of the Virgin Mary again appeared before Juan Diego, but this time in front of the Archbishop. Her image appeared in his cloak, or tilma, which is now enshrined at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
